Thankful meme

In honor of my all time favorite holiday I’m participating in John’s meme

1. Write down five things that you’re thankful for.
2. Tag five friends who you’d like to see participate in this meme.
3. (Optional) Include a link to this post and encourage others to place a link to their completed meme in the comments section of this post so we can keep track of the thankfulness running around the blogosphere.

I’m thankful for
1. beautiful, warm, soft wool (I’ve been knitting a lot lately)
2. a wood burning fireplace
3. green tea
4. my french press (I think coffee is much better made in a french press - and cheaper btw which allows you to buy better quality fair trade beans)
5. the days I have the car and don’t have to walk Shayel to school

I tag David, Molly, Becky, Jonathan, Bec

Before I have a crack at this… what is a french press? I’m after anything that aids the enjoyment of coffee!

oh my young padewan, let me take you under my wing and disciple you in the ways of the coffee. ;)

    This is a french press,
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_press

also called a press pot or coffee plunger. A similar effect can be had by coursly grinding coffee beans and putting them in a pot of water, letting it steep for about 4 minutes and pouring it through a sieve but a french press makes easier work of it.

more of the oils and such in the coffee are let through so you want to make sure you have really high quality natural organic beans

Oh THAT’s a French Press! A friend of mine has one and you’re right, it’s wonderful. I’m going to have to put it on my Christmas list.

    Peace.

the great thing is that they’re not very expensive. The best thing to do, IMO, is buy an electric kettle for boiling water if you don’t already have one. I like the cordless models that heat fast and hold a lot of water.

French Press is good, but it makes such a small amount of coffee. I like ours though, super cheap from IKEA.

yeah, I haven’t seen anything bigger than an 8cup but the main reason why they do that I think is that the coffee made in a french press is considered expired within 20 minutes - it really needs to be served immediately after steeping.

I only drink 1 cup in the morning and sometimes another in the evening so it works for us - even with guests I can serve 3-4 with the first steep and then another 3-4 with the second steep taking a grand total of less than 10 minutes. But if we have more people than that to serve I get out my big drip maker.

I am thankful for my family, my church, the friends I have made and am making through this strange device on which I am typing, that I live in this time and place and so can feel as if I actually am making a difference in the world, and I am thankful for all the blessings I have had over the past day, week, month, and year.

Makeesha, I am thankful that I stumbled upon your wonderful little site, and that you have been willing to listen to me rant and ramble on. I have learned much, and hope to continue sitting at your feet and listening and hope I do not wear out my welcome. Happy Thanksgiving to your entire family.
