sickies, school and other fun things

Shayel woke up yesterday saying that her tummy hurt - which, with a 4 year old could mean any number of things esp. since she bouncing around acting normal. So we gave her some mini waffles and about 20 minutes after eating 1 mini she threw it up. So yesterday was consumed by taking care of a sad little girl with a tummy bug. Fortunately, she was fine as long as she didn’t eat or drink anything…poor thing was so thirsty. This morning she seems to be much better so we’re going to give some toast a try.

Today, I have to make a meal for a new mom in our church and I told Shayel if she could keep down food and felt better that I would make chocolate cake - she’s been asking for it for days.

Tomorrow we are going to the 4-H fair - a free event with lots of animals and “stuff”. Shayel should love it. It’s supposed to be in the mid 50’s tomorrow and mostly sunny so it should be a decent day for it.

Shayel shocked me a few days ago. She was playing a Dora game on the internet (nickjr.com) and came to me with a paper in her hand. It was a printout of one of the activities from the site and at the top was her name - typed almost correctly - SHAYL. So she had not only typed her own name without assistance but had managed to print the page herself as well. David and I were talking about what a different age we live in when our preschool kids learn how to type their own name before they even learn how to spell it. Now that she’s gotten more practice spelling it correctly she does it all the time. On Wednesday on the way to playgroup she was saying “S H A Y E L - Shayel - that’s me” in this little sing song voice. hehe

She is really interested in so many different things, I’m not sure what to get her involved in this spring and summer. She wants to do music for sure and I’m thinking at this point to put her in a general music class where she can be exposed to all types of instruments and singing, rhythm, etc. Then down the road we’ll give her a chance to specialize in an instrument. She also loves to move - gymnastics, dance, anything like that. She said she’ d rather do dance than gymnastics so I’m trying to decide how “formal” to get with that. I might just put her in a movement class instead of a ballet type class. I’d also love to get her in an art class, swimming lessons and some kind of sport but I don’t think we’ll do ALL of that. We’re looking at preschools more seriously for this fall - for preK. There are some options that are more within our price range and since our car will be paid off by December, it wouldn’t be totally unrealistic. But if we just did school at home we’d be able to do lots of fun group/social stuff…I’m just not sure how much she needs the “practice” for real school before going into Kindergarten. Decisions…decisions…
